Back from a 2 week vacation in Arizona. The change in climate was great. It was great to get away spend time with hubby see a few relatives and a lot of beautiful scenery on the drive. While I was gone the RSC14 color changed from blue to pink. So the first thing I do is start a new quilt.
Like I needed another project in the works. I've been looking at scrappy star quilts with different centers. Some have strings, or crumbs, or 9 patches. I decided on a 16 patch and then changed to a 25 patch after playing with the center squares so I could use this center square layout. Then had to get out the graph paper and do some figuring to come up with the right size star points. Decided to piece the star points because I needed 5 1/2 inches for them. Then to find a neutral for the blocks. I was going to go all scrappy but I don't have strips or squares that wide. That and I really hoard my neutrals and lights/muslin fabrics. I did some digging and in a suit case that has fabric I didn't think I would ever find a use for in a quilt I found this white with lines on it. I have enough of it to make 12 blocks. Pretty happy with my find and the blocks I made. A blue one for last month and a pink one for this month. The blocks are a big 20'' square so 12 will give me a 60 x 80 quilt or larger if I add sashing or a border or 2. It's great to be able to make a quilt using up some more of my stash.

Great blocks and a wonderful size. If you have any stars left over, you could use it as a center medallion and surround it with 9 patch border blocks as in the McCalls classic free pattern.
Great blocks. Feels good when you can use stash fabric that you feared you might not be able to use. I've been there a few times.
I really like the star pattern you came up with. Your fabrics look great together, especially that fun background!
Great use of scraps and some fun stars. I made some red large stars last year with crumb blocks for the center.
Great block. I'm so glad you were able to make the pattern work with the fabric you had on hand. So much more satisfying than going out to buy new.
The background fabric looks perfect with your stars. Its going to be a great quilt.
