Design Wall Monday Remembering Grandma

Not a lot of progress this week. I changed out the pinwheel fabric for a little darker one. I should of went with this one from the start but I love this fabric and try to save it. I'm thinking about making a real design wall instead of letting the blocks lay on the floor for weeks. Thinking out my options yet.

I really like the darker fabric. The chain will show up more with it. I know what you mean about saving a favorite fabric, but once you use it you have an excuse to buy another favorite fabric.

I really like the new color, too. Love this quilt - I finished it earlier this year.

I made an easy design wall - bought a long piece of PVC pipe, less than 1" in diameter. DH cut it to about 7ft long. Six inches in from each end, we screwed in an eye hook. I bought a large piece of white flannel, hemmed it, threaded onto pole. Strung fishing line thru eyehooks, to create a hanger. I can take this down as needed - I sew in the dining room. I love it.

This is going to be beautiful.

I can hardly wait to see this one finished. It is lovely! As for an easy design wall, I put a hanging sleeve on some batting I bought at Michaels with the 40% off coupon (so it was cheap) and put it on a curtain rod. Not perfect, but when my smaller one is too small, it works.

Neat quilt!
I would definately recommend a design wall...it's fun to walk by and see your developing quilt.

I made a design wall also--I was at an estate sale one day and in the basement there were four long boards--1" x 4" and about 8 feet long. Each had a hole drilled near the end and had muslin stapled along the length. People were walking right past this treasure, not knowing what it was. I scooped up the quilt frame boards and an antique ironing board and paid $2 for my treasures! One of the boards was cracked, but I glued it together and now use them to display quilts on around the house, as well as a design wall by pinning a flannel sheet on it.
