Feathered Star

I've been sewing on this quilt this week. It's from Kim Diehl's book Simple Traditions. It's finished size is 52 x 52". It has 5 applique blocks and four pieced blocks in the center and then the outer border.

Here's my progress on the pieced blocks. I have all the pieces cut and working on the sewing. It's nice to just sit and sew sometimes.

The applique is going okay. I have not had a lot of luck with applique in the past. I've been reading hints and the needle turn applique is starting to work for me. I'm not struggling as much this time. I guess you have to keep trying.

It's looking good. Don't judge your applique too harshly (we are our own worst critics) I put away my first needleturn piece sometime ago because it just 'looked' horrible. I came across it recently when cleaning my supplies . . . you know, it's not bad *s*

I have that book and have not yet made anything. You picked some nice fabric. Good luck with the needle turn!

Beautiful quilt. I am scared to death of the "A" word. I have attempted a couple of simple machine appliqued pieces with "okay" results. Odd I seem to not want to try hand applique, much as I enjoy handwork. Maybe one day....

It will be a beautiful quilt when finished.

With applique the only way to get good at it is practice, practice, practice. We always see mistakes that others never notice -- and if they do - don't invite them over again - LOL
