Vacation and Basting

I'm going on vacation and should be back next weekend. Before leaving I wanted to get a couple of quilt tops basted for quilting. So yesterday I got out the quilt stretcher frame and started to pin bast quilts. How many quilts can I do with the pins that I have. More then I thought. I want to do this one first and I might smuggle it in to the camper with my sewing machine. My hubby won't notice. I think I can hide them in the couch it looks like a normal couch but the seat opens up like a trunk and holds lots of stuff.

This is the dear Jane block I enlarged. I used old used shirts for the fabric. I need to upgrade my digital camera and get a new one this one is 6 years old and the pictures I've been taking lately just haven't been the greatest. Or the basement is to dark and I don't have the flash set right. Sorry

When the cat wants to sit on a quilt you just can't win. Chase her off and she comes right back. I added a close up of this quilt. It has lots of issues put I finally got it together mistakes and all.
The camera does better with close ups.

I love the big black paper clip thinggys I bought to hold the back and batting to the boards. I makes it so much easier then pinning. Thanks.... to whose ever blog I seen them on. They even had a tutorial. I wish I could find it back to share.

Okay how could I not notice that square until I see it on a picture and the quilt top is already basted. How could I sew a solid 9 patch in there instead of a muslin and print one. That's not going to be fun fixing.
Yes that mistake is still there.
I've tried to take pictures of this quilt before and they never turn out. It really is a neat quilt. Maybe a new camera can do it.
And if you counted that's 6 basted quilts. I was hoping for 3 or 4.
And now I'm off for a week of vacation.

I understand that the Amish call that whoopsie block the "humility block"; no one is perfect! I say leave it in--I agree that it makes it special. Six quilts--you'll have a busy vacation! Have fun!
(PS - my word verification is "valize" which is French for "suitcase"...must be fate!)

'Hubby won't notice...' good luck with that!

Lovely quilts and so nice to have them all basted and ready to sew! Enjoy your vacation :-)

Those are some great quilts. I think you should leave that "mistake" block in your Irish Chain - adds character and will always make people wonder what you had on your mind when you put it there.

Just catching up on blogs...I love your quilts because they are so scrappy especially the third (blue) one.

I too was going to suggest as others have about the quilt with the "mistake" that you leave it as a "humility block". Unless of course it will bug you to death that it's there.....

I also use the binder clips for securing my quilts when basting-- however I use them to baste my quilts on my cutting table. I am very interested in knowing more about your "basting frame". Can you do a future post with pictures and details about it? It looks like a great solution for quilter friends of mine who don't have tables or floor space that easily accomodate basting.

Aren't you supposed to have a mistake in every quilt, since only God can make a perfect one?

I say leave that cte little stray nine patch where it is. It can be an intentional mistake.

I am going to retire in 3 weeks and am looking forward to making a quilt. I was wondering what kind of wood I should get for the stretcher and if it needs to be finished with anything? Also where could I get the clamps that look like they would work so well? As long as I have you on the line, could I ask you if you have a certain kind of batting you like to use in your quilts? I will look forward to hearing from any of you with suggestions. Thank you for your help. RK

Wow, your quilts are so beautiful! I really like the one of the "Dear Jane" enlarged block. Fantastic job with your colors and everything looks so smooth! Very nice.

count me among the "leave it in" crew. I am new to quilting. Just finished my first top, sending it to a local woman to quilt. Have a baby quilt on the table that I will quilt and have 2 more quilts lined up. This is as addicting as knitting! I like your quilts, they are "classic" and appeal to my tastes. The blue one especially. I look forward to reading your blog.
