Dear Jane

Oh look what I bought. I've been looking for the Dear Jane book for awhile. Thinking about buying it for even longer. I know I could of ordered online. But I've been waiting. I was at the local quilt shop looking through there books when I spied it. All the shops I've looked at have never had it on hand so I've never really seen the real book before. So I treated myself and bought it. The price was the same as on line. I also bought some printed muslin for the background. Now I'm so excited I don't know what block to start with. It's fun just looking through the book. I'm going to hold off starting until after Thanksgiving. I have all four days of the weekend off from work I want to take my time and enjoy making the blocks. I'm sure it will take a long time to complete.

It really is a beautifully written book but after a few blocks I realised DJ wasn't for me. I hope you enjoy making your own - it IS fun making those small blocks.

Welcome to the world of Jane :-)
You are in for a lot of fun. My appproach, and the one I am teaching is - start with the easiest one, then take the next easiest one and so on. If I can be of any assistance along the way, don't hesitate to ask. Remember, it is your quilt, and no quilt police is accepted ;-) Enjoy !

I like reading about people that work outside the home and quilt. It encourages me that it can be done!!!

Have fun! A lot of the blocks are very challenging and wierdly done, but the end product will be just gorgeous! Are you planning to do it all or just selected blocks? I took a class with Brenda when the book first came out, but I've only done about 8 or 10 blocks so far. Maybe someday....

You're done for now. You have a project that could take the rest of your life! LOL! Have fun. I do know 3 real, living people who finished theirs. =)

Ooohhh, how fun! I have the book, but am waiting until next winter to start (because I forgot my book in Canada, am now in the US and will soon be in Austria). Anyway, I did look around some DJ sites on the internet and was a bit confused about the yardage needed for the background fabric because it seemed like the book was in error? Soo - you might want to ask someone who knows DJ about that just in case you need to buy extra of your background fabric. Have fun with it - I've seen some beautiful DJ blocks out there in blogland! Oh to see a real DJ quilt up close and personal...

Cheers!

Evelyn

Shoot, I could have sold you mine had I known you were looking and for less money. I listed mine on amazon used books as I have the software and didn't need it.

I've thought so often about doing Dear Jane but just never have done it. I think they are such beautiful quilts.

Some people start with A-1 and work straight through. I personally started with the easiest one - the nine patch, and work my way up to the harder ones. I figure that my skill level improves, so the ones that were harder at the beginning are more up to my level now.

Oh yeah, as I read the other comments, there are a couple of errors in the book. The yardage for the background is way too little. And some of the blocks drafted by Brenda don't look like Janes. You get to pick if you want to make Jane's version or Brenda's version, or make up your own.

Www.dearjane.com has many block tips and www.janiacs.com has pictures of other quilts in case you want color ideas.

Oh, and I didn't notice until late, that Jane used a trip around the world color scheme, again in case you want to make yours like Jane's.
